Collaboration with artist Wei Shao, video stories written by Wei Shao, Shanghai, CN, May 2023
During the 2022 pandemic, I collaborated with the artist Wei Shao from Shanghai. Wei Shao, who spent a lot of time at home due to the lockdown, developed personal thoughts about the plants in her home, which inspired her to create imaginative stories. I live in the Netherlands, where I had more freedom, and through my camera, I captured everyday moments that seemed to blend with the fictional stories Wei Shao had created in her mind.
After the pandemic, I returned to Shanghai, and Wei Shao and I were invited by Shanghai ADC and College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University to present our collaborative work. Before the screening, I invited people to use an object I prepared on a chair to unlock their phones. It was an interactive experience that mirrored the theme of our video: finding meaningful moments in everyday life, just as you find unexpected ways to unlock your phone using something other than your usual method.
